Australia: Abestos found in train carriages from China.
I posted one in the news section regarding recent events as concerns crayons and toys, but let's be aware of the continuous health dangers from this country. Obviously if us Aussies made things in Australia this wouldn't be a health concern in the first place and be strictly dealt with! Why are we so easy going on regimes that are hell bent on ruining peoples' health?
LEIGH SALES, PRESENTER: Railway workers have been exposed to potentially hazardous asbestos after the deadly dust was found in locomotives brought in from China. It's a breach of a 10-year ban on the import of products containing the carcinogenic fibre.
It's not the first incident of its kind and unions are now demanding tougher policing of Chinese imports, describing the current asbestos-free certificates as a farce.
Matt Peacock has this exclusive report.
MATT PEACOCK, REPORTER: Iron ore bound for China is now being towed to port by a locomotive that came from China.
Last year freight carrier SCT imported 10 of those locos made by China Southern Rail. To comply with the decade-old Australian ban on asbestos imports they were certified asbestos-free.
