Champagne Socialist François Hollande Spends €10,000 a Month on Haircuts
French socialist François Hollande does not go to Supercuts for his monthly trim, but rather employs his own private barber at the price of a cabinet minister.
According to Politico, the President of France pays close to €10,000 a month to keep his combover looking so swank, which doesn't really jive with his welfare state pyramid scheme, or maybe it does, since Hollande sits at the top of the pyramid. So, not a hypocrite, just a true believer.
Politico provides info on just how wildly out-of-step is his barber's salary, which stands roughly €8,000 above what a high-society Parisian barber would charge if Hollande were to employ his or her service every day of the month:
On May 16, 2012, the day after Hollande’s inauguration, his appointed chief of staff hired a Parisian hairdresser to work full-time on the president’s hair. The salary: €9,895 a month.
A cabinet minister is paid €9,940 per month. A men’s haircut at a high-end Parisian coiffeur costs between €35 and €45. So getting one every day (weekends included) would set back the French taxpayer €1,350 at most.
